    futureearth.
Just wanted to post a quick little screen shot. Behold, future Earth in a galaxy procedurally generated with planets generated by procedure. We can now travel the universe through Stardale to explore the cosmos! The universe itself is at present a work in progress but as of right now you can fly off world and back on world! Likewise planets surfaces are procedurally generated and have been for months. Surface view of planets themselves are procedurally generated and the space view artwork will be too, making the universe feel and look alive and breathing.

For those wondering, "Class: H-Type" stands for "Type-Habitable" or in other words, the planet is habitable/liveable with air breathable for your characters species.

So are we going to be able to actually fly in space, I sure hope so. I was so disappointed in Starbounds traveling system, it made it too easy to get around I felt. Can you elaborate any more on the space mechanics? Like will there be space dogfights, space stations, abandons ships and dris, or anything this else of the sort?

Hey gnarvin, yes you will be able to fly through space on your own ship. We will pretty much have everything you mentioned. Our goal is to have not only player controlled ships in space but also an entire component of the game takes place off world, including planetary defences and exploration. The way it works is that you will tech up and once you've reached a certain level of technology you can begin to explore offworld. When you do start to explore offworld you'll find an entire universe awaiting you, including space markets, new worlds, new friends, new enemies, and more. You'll also have to consider planetary defences if you'd like to prevent enemies from invading - but we'll have ways to balance it so that if you just want a single planet to build on, you won't be invaded by an arsenal of more hostile players waiting to gank you.

Once you are able to go offworld, you can fly through space, create trade routes to build your economy, form governments over your planet and others if you wish to conquer, and be able to join other players. You can join groups, gangs, alliances, have dog fights, build player owned stations, attack other player owned stations, and attack other worlds. When attacking player owned stations and worlds, it isn't just something you do and conquer two minutes later - attacking a player owned station could be a type of battle that requires planning and hours or even days to do. For example you might need jammers to overload your target's defensive system before even beginning to be able to start bringing down their shielding.

The universe will be big, really really big, but if you want to explore deep space you'll have to research and develop to be able to travel greater distances. Ships will be slotted and can be upgraded with weapons, FTL drives, and other engineering, mechanical, and defence type items.

I hope that helps to answer some of your questions. :)
